Black Widow Illustration

This is an Illustration I did for “Black Widow Off Road”. They were really specific about what kind of insect machine hybrid they wanted. They had this whole storyline laid out about it being the year 2108, a genetic scientist and a mechanical engineer get together and create this beast. It was a lot of fun to work on.

  1. I love the backstory. 2108 is so specific.

I just wish there was some frame of reference for this robo-arachnae’s size. Cause I imagine him crushing cars like Gravedigger. While dragging innocent victims about with his winch web.

  2. That’s exactly right! They wanted it to look huge like a monster truck. That’s difficult with something like a spider and with no other objects to show his size. I’m glad you saw that.

The owner liked it so much in fact that he had it tatoo’d into his calf! Crazy huh?

  3. That is so cool! I hate spiders, but I must admit that one is awesome! My nephew nicolas would LOVE that, he is really into snakes and spiders and monster trucks right now, and that combines them both. Good job jeff!

  4. That’s really cool!!! Weird that they were so specific on the year… AWESOME job! did you do photoshop or illustrator or both?

  5. Drew it by hand then pulled it into Photoshop to use as a template then just built layer after layer of shape, shadow, light and texture. Each leg consists of about 20-30 layers.

  6. It looks like a 3D model. Good job. Tattoo even!

  7. Holy crap! see, that right there will be why i never make the big bucks, not willing to go that far… :0)

  8. I couldn’t go that far even if I was willing. I tried to draw a horse today and it was a fiasco. It was on some training notes and I had to try to hide it with my arm so no one would see it.

  9. I demand more posts.
